Cyberattack attacks Risk situation higher than ever before

Cyberattacks  A new wave of cyber attacks is imminent in Germany. The President of the Federal Office for Information Security warned of this a few days ago.

Very high risk of virtual attacks

Claudia Plattner made it clear to companies and public institutions that the current risk situation is higher than ever before. In her opinion, the question is not whether an attack will occur, but only when.

Particularly serious are threats posed by virtual attacks using encryption software.

According to Plattner, it is particularly noticeable that hospitals, municipalities and other public institutions are currently being attacked very frequently. One of the reasons for this is the current geopolitically tense situation. In addition, disinformation campaigns create the impression that the state is increasingly less able to protect companies or institutions operating in them.
Information from the Federal Criminal Police Office, for example, shows that cyberattacks caused economic damage of around 206 billion euros in 2022.

Lack of implementation

According to the expert, the necessary implementation is lacking in order to effectively protect against the consequences of a cyber attack . As the mathematician emphasized, the Federal Office for Security can prevent cyber attacks and support those affected in emergency situations after attacks. However, companies and institutions are still responsible for implementing important measures.
The Federal Office would not be able to implement concrete cyber defense on site even if it had ten times as many employees. But the authority has other responsibilities.

More and more vulnerabilities

The BSI is currently pointing to a huge increase in potential vulnerabilities. The agency is currently exposed to around 70 new security gaps per day .

In addition, the number of malware programs is continuously increasing.

To improve virtual security, Plattner referred to the “Alliance for Cyber Security” founded in 2012. The network now has more than 8,000 companies as members. Among other things, this association points to so-called best practices, particularly effective methods. Cyberattacks Cyberattacks Cyberattacks Cyberattacks Cyberattacks Cyberattacks
