Apple II and Apple IIGS are both personal computers that were developed and manufactured by Apple Inc. The Apple II, also known as the Apple ][, was first introduced in 1977 and was the first successful personal computer produced by the company. It was designed to be a low-cost, easy-to-use machine that could be used by individuals and small businesses.

The Apple IIGS, short for Apple II Graphics and Sound, was a later version of the Apple II that was released in 1986. It featured improved graphics and sound capabilities compared to the original Apple II, and also had the ability to run Macintosh software.

The Apple II/IIGS emulator for iOS, ActiveGS, comes equipped with a virtual keyboard, mouse, and joypad for playing games. The joypad is always displayed alongside the keyboard, but it can be freely repositioned on the screen for ease of use. Furthermore, ActiveGS provides support for gamepads, including both made for iPhone (mFi) and iCade controllers.

ActiveGS for iOS offers a limited number of options for customization. Users can adjust basic settings such as gameplay speed (1MHz, 2GS, ZIP), frames per second (15 – 60), audio quality (22KHz, 44KHZ), memory size (1 MB – 4 MB), and display type (CRT or LCD).

Additionally, ActiveGS for iOS also allows you to save game states. These save states are specific to each game, and you have the option of 6 available slots to save your progress. You can also split the virtual keyboard for easier use in landscape mode.

ActiveGS was developed as an open-source project, with the source code being made publicly available on GitHub repository. The Apple II/IIGS emulator for iOS was written using a combination of programming languages, including C++, C, and Objective-C++. The developer has also provided detailed instructions on how to compile the project from the source code.
