Touchscreen Issues iOS 18 – Many early adopters of iOS 18.0 are reporting issues with touchscreen responsiveness on their iPhones. After upgrading, users have experienced various problems with touch inputs.
Affected Models
So far, the issues seem to be impacting the iPhone 14 and later models, including my own devices. I’ve encountered this problem on both my previous and current iPhones after installing iOS 18. For example, the virtual keyboard would often fail to recognize input when typing quickly, making it frustrating to compose messages.
Common Problems
In addition to the keyboard glitches, I’ve noticed that gestures—such as swiping up to access the Home Screen—are unreliable on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Sometimes, certain areas of the screen don’t respond to touch or are slow to react. Others on Reddit have shared similar complaints, describing unresponsive spots on their displays.
For some iPhone 16 users, thinner bezels could be contributing to the issue, as touch inputs near the edges of the screen sometimes go unregistered. However, even on older models like the iPhone 14 Pro Max, these issues have emerged after the iOS 18 update, indicating a software-related problem.
Potential Cause
A Mastodon user speculated that the issue may stem from Apple’s palm rejection algorithm, which might be overly sensitive. They suggested that when palm rejection kicks in, it may inadvertently disable all touch inputs. While this theory hasn’t been confirmed, it’s possible that a software bug is to blame.
Awaiting a Fix
We expect Apple to address the issue in an upcoming software update. In the meantime, if you’re experiencing these touchscreen problems, a restart may temporarily resolve them.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue to monitor this issue!
