Acknowledging the Challenges Ahead

To set the stage, I need to be transparent about where I stand health-wise. For a long time, I neglected my health, and the consequences are now evident. Currently, I weigh around 250 pounds at a height of 5 feet 9 inches—far from ideal. While I’m aware that there are those with more serious health issues, I recognize the urgent need for change in my own life.

My primary focus is to lose weight and manage my high blood pressure, a condition that has plagued me for years, likely exacerbated by some medications I take. I’m determined to improve my overall health, as I believe it will help lower my blood pressure in ways that medication has failed to achieve. My goal is to avoid severe health complications like strokes or heart attacks.

Additionally, I hope to tackle other issues, such as lethargy, mood swings, and concentration difficulties. I’ve recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea, and I’m eager to explore lifestyle changes that could reduce my symptoms and help me avoid the long-term use of a CPAP machine.

Crafting a Practical Plan

Now that we’ve established the challenges, it’s time to focus on how I plan to overcome them. The cornerstone of my health journey will be the Apple Watch Series 10. I’m using the 46mm model to track workouts, monitor my heart rate, and evaluate my overall activity levels. The Apple Watch is essential to my success because I thrive on data and visual representations of my progress, such as graphs and statistics.

In addition to the Apple Watch, I’ll be incorporating several other pieces of hardware into my routine. For continuous blood pressure monitoring, I’ll use an Aktiia blood pressure monitor, which measures my blood pressure throughout the day. Additionally, I plan to utilize a Withings BPM Connect blood pressure monitor and their Body Comp smart scale to gather a comprehensive view of my health.

So, what will my daily routine look like? While I won’t be joining any gyms or signing up for marathons—those aren’t quite my style—I recently welcomed a new dog into my life. This means daily walks, and I view those as a fantastic opportunity to increase my activity level. I aim for half an hour of energetic walks with my puppy, which is a significant improvement from my previous, more sedentary lifestyle.
